Cork is a renewable resource
Cork is the bark of the cork oak, a tree that grows, above all, in the western Mediterranean region.
As the trees grow, their trunks expand, and hollow dead wood cells accumulate to form the tree’s bark, and this is harvested as cork.
Harvesting cork does not involve cutting the tree down. The cork is extracted or harvested every 9-10 years. This allows the tree to regenerate its bark over the course of its lifetime, approximately 170 years.
As a result, cork is a natural renewable and exceptionally sustainable resource.
